Livermore capitalized on local assets to recover from the economy's profound effect on local businesses downtown. The city energized streets by bringing indoor vitality outside in "flex zones" that convert street parking to outdoor dining. Music, art and wine events and festivals generate foot traffic, while strategically placed street entertainers connect pockets of vitality in this award-winning Great American Main Street.

Seattle's Joint Enforcement Team (JET) coordinates city departments for nightlife enforcement and regulation. JET's protocols start with assistance and intervention, reserving penalties and sanctions for extreme cases and establishments that don't respond to outreach. JET's Technical Assistance Program provides businesses with a single point-of-contact for compliance, planning and operating standards. The JET meets monthly to coordinate efforts.

Edmonton has identified entertainment areas as venues in and of themselves that need coordination for appropriate nighttime public services. Soon to be implemented in several hospitality zones, the 'Street as a Venue' Whyte Avenue coordinator has implemented changes which the business and residential community identified to mitigate the impacts of the nighttime economy while increasing perception of safety, cleanliness and vibrancy.
